This small study was painted during my time in France as part of my studio practice working from life. Throughout the course, we spent hours studying subtle shifts in light, color, and form. Learning to observe the human face in a much deeper way than I had before.

I created several eye studies to bring pieces of that practice home with me. Focusing closely on a single feature allowed me to slow down and pay attention to the quiet complexity of color within the skin, shadow, and reflection of light. Though small in scale, these studies became some of the most intimate works from my time there.
