“Mujer De Madrid” (Woman From Madrid) was the first photo I took during this study. I loved everything about this woman: from her cool undone hairstyle, to her cigarette and half-drunk cocktail, and the way the yellow café lights glowed across her skin. I sat across from her, eating my dinner. She dragged on her cigarette and let her ice melt while talking softly under her breath to a friend who sat so close their feet softly grazed each other.

Oil on canvas.

16” by 24”

Framed in a dusty white pine frame.
